Itineraries

Day 1

Dubrovnik Embarkation

The tour starts on a Friday in Dubrovnik. Check-in on board starts between 2 and 2.30 pm at Gruž, the town port. At about 4.30 pm, a guided tour through Dubrovnik is offered, where you learn about the town’s history and visit the most impressive sites. The boat will spend the night in Gruž offering an opportunity to experience Dubrovnik’s nightlife.

Day 2

(Sat) Dubrovnik – Island Šipan – Island Mljet (aprx. 7 mi./11 km + aprx. 15.5 mi./25 km)

In the morning we cross over to the nearby island of Šipan. Šipan is the largest of the Elaphiti Islands, yet still humble in size. A great place for our first bike tour and to get used to riding in a group. After our first tour we board the boat and enjoy a cruise to the green island of Mljet. Green because 70 % of its landmass is covered by woodland making it the most forested island in the Mediterranean region. Homer mentioned this lovely island in his epic poem “Odyssey”. He made it a home for the Nymph Calypso and the legendary Greek king Odysseus, who could not resist Calypso and stayed on Mljet for seven years. We arrive in the harbor of Pomena and enjoy a round tour on our bikes through the Mljet National Park. The night is spent in the harbor of Pomena.

Day 3

(Sun) Pelješac Peninsula: Trstenik – Orebić – Island Korčula (aprx. 15.5 mi./25 km)

During breakfast a short cruise brings us to the harbour of Trstenik on the Pelješac Peninsula. Pelješac can be recognised from far away with its impressive 3280 ft./ 1.000m high Sv. Ilija mountain range. The famous local wines named Plavac and Dingač originate from this unique wine region where vineyards can be found firmly rooted into the steep mountainside. Today's bicycle ride takes us along the coastline from Trstenik to Orebić where the boat will wait for us with a delicious lunch (a short 4km distance of the tour is ridden on gravel roads to avoid the traffic of the busy main road). With lunch on board, we set off towards the picturesque town of Korčula with its fishbone alleyways competes with Venice for the honor of being the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo. It is here that we spend the night and enjoy a guided city tour packed with fascinating anecdotes concerning the history of the city and the island.

Day 4

(Mon) Korčula Island: Korčula town - Vela Luka (apprx. 37.5 mi./60 km)

Today’s cycle tour leads us across the charming island of Korčula. A wonderful opportunity to enjoy the mild Mediterranean climate amid a broad variety of different vistas including beautiful views across the deep blue sea to neighboring islands. Dinner is served on board to replenish our strength after another active day. Overnight mooring in the sheltered bay of Vela Luka.

Day 5

(Tue) Island Vis: (aprx. 20 mi./32 km)

In the morning we leave the island of Korčula behind and enjoy a breakfast cruise to the island of Vis with a possible swim stop from the boat before arrival. Vis is the furthermost inhabited island from mainland Croatia. A Greek colony called Issa settled on the island 2,300 years ago. Due to its strategic location it was a military zone until 1995 and prohibited for foreign tourists. In the afternoon we have the opportunity to explore the lovely island by bicycle. From the town of Vis we cycle once around the entire island with a coffee stop in the harbour of Komiža . The night is spent in the harbour of Vis.

Day 6

(Wed) Island Hvar: Hvar Town – Jelsa – Stari Grad (aprx. 24 mi./40 km)

The day starts with a relaxing cruise to Hvar town on the island of the same name. Make use of the time before the bike tour begins to go for a little stroll through the city. Standing on the magnificent Renaissance Square you can enjoy a view up to the Spanish Fortress towering high above the city. Today's bike tour takes us from the Hvar town up a steady climb through small villages and lavender fields to the harbour town of Jelsa on the opposite side of the island. The descent down to Jelsa offers breath-taking views. After Ice cream and coffee in Jelsa, our ride continues through the picturesque town of Vrboska and through the ancient Greek plains, now a protected UNESCO heritage site, to the artistic village of Stari Grad where our boat awaits our arrival. The night is spent in Stari Grad.

Day 7

(Thur) Brač Island: Milna – Pučišća (aprx. 24 mi./40 km)

In the morning we cruise to the island of Brač, famous for its radiant, precious limestone that was used in part for the White House in Washington as well as for the construction of the German Reichstag building in Berlin. Once on Brač, we start our bike tour from Milna to the picturesque harbour town of Pučišća. Climbing our way over the island we have spectacular views across the Dalmatian coast. Along the way we take time to interact with the locals before continuing along the coast from Postira to Pučišća where our boat awaits us for lunch and the final cruise of the week to the UNESCO world heritage city of Split. On a guided city tour, we get the opportunity to see inside the former Palace of Emperor Diocletian and learn about its transformation into the city it is today. A cheerful evening meal on board the boat gives us plenty of time to celebrate the wonderful week with fellow travellers and tour guides.

There is a crew consisting of the captain, cabin crew, the cook and tour guides who will make sure everything on the tour goes smoothly. Every morning after breakfast, your guide will go through the route with the group.

On each tour, there are 2 tour guides on the boat.

Normally the group cycles together but this doesn’t mean that the group will always be one after the other with no space in between. Often the group stretches long and everyone can cycle in his/her own pace.

If a guest really wants to cycle individually he/she has to be very punctual and has to have some skills in repairing a bike, since the tour guides will always be with the group.

Bike rental is not included in the basic tour cost:

However bike rental is of course possible to arrange!

E-Bike for €230
Gravel or Road bike for €185

The cycle tours require at least basic level of fitness from participants, which they should have acquired from steady cycling. The tours will take us up to a height of 200 to 650 m above sea-level. The day tours from 12 mi. to 37.5 mi. (20 to 60 km) will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bicycles. We traverse mostly asphalted roads, which are rarely travelled on outside the holiday seasons. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned cycle tour.

Helmet use is mandatory on all bike tours in Croatia. You are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well fitted) helmet. Rental Helmets are available on board in limited number (reservation requested).

On a scale from 1 - 10 (1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest) we are giving this tour 6 points

Children
We believe that only children in a good physical condition and with a minimum age of 10 and previous cycling tour experience are able to master the cycle tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1,20 m (4 ft). There is a helmet duty for all children up to age 16 in Croatia.

The cycle tours require an advanced level of fitness from participants, which they should have acquired from steady cycling. The tours will take us up to a height of 200 to 500 m above sea-level. The day tours from 28 mi. / 45 km and will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time constraints.

The on-board chef is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and one or two warm meals per day. The catering consists of 2x full board and 5x half board. It starts with dinner on the arrival day and ends with breakfast on the departure day.

Specialised cycle clothing may be handy but not strictly necessary. What you do need (among other things) is the
following:
• shorts/ long trousers/ track suit/ leggings
• shirts/ sweater/ rain clothing
• good shoes plus shoes for use on deck only
• sunglasses/ cap/ swimming costume
• extra towel for swimming
• soap/ insect repellent
• own helmet

This was our third cycling holiday with cycling safaris and this bike and boat option was the best by far. The boat was extremely comfortable with air conditioning in our cabin. The food was delicious with all allergies/ food preferences catered for. The only buffet meal was the breakfast- the other meals were plated and served to us - we were very well looked after. The boat sailed only during the day, so no motor noise to keep us awake. The cycling was the highlight with fantastic scenery on mostly quiet roads on each of the islands we visited. The guides were both with us every pedal-push of the way, attending immediately to any issues that arose. At the beginning and end of each outing, we just left our bikes on the quay and our wonderful guides did all the hauling of the bikes on and off the boat.

The other great advantage of a boat trip is only one unpacking!

To me, this boat and bike island hopping trip is the best way to appreciate some of the scenic islands of Croatia. Anyone who is unable for the combination of hills and heat can try the e-bike and not miss out on this great holiday.

Marie & Tom (Dalmatian Islands plus August 2018)

My trip was excellent.  The ship Harmonia was in very good condition and clean.  The crew was amazing.  The food was incredibly delicious.  Our tour guides Lucija and Benjamin were outstanding, and the bikes were high quality and in excellent condition.  Only 2 of us (myself and a woman from Austria) rode a regular bike; the others rode an e-bike.  I tried out one of the Cube e-bikes for a few minutes and I was very impressed. The itinerary was very interesting and of course, the scenery was gorgeous. It didn’t hurt that the weather was spectacular... I enjoyed the day trip (by bus) to Mostar, but if I had a choice I would have preferred cycling that day instead.

Tom Haser Dalmatian Islands Plus May 2018

My wife and enjoyed all aspects of the trip. The accommodations were great. It was a treat not having to pack/unpack each day. The ship was clean and comfortable and the crew was friendly and attentive. Meals were different and tasty. The bike trips were fun and the guides kept everyone informed and together in one group. Nikes were fine, my wife had an e-bike for the first time and felt she could really enjoy the ride without worrying about keeping up or being too tired after the ride. It will be the only bike for her in the future.

Ric and Pat McCormick (Dalmatian Islands Plus 2018)

We had an amazing time - we loved the boat experience. There were 30 in the group and everybody was very friendly and we had great fun. I was glad to have an electric bike as the terrain was very hilly.
It was our first experience of this type of holiday and definitely one we would like to repeat.

Anne O'Gorman (Dalmatian Islands from Dubrov, June 2018)

Ric and I had a truly fabulous time on the trip. Thank you for your efficient organisation.
The San Snova is such a well maintained, clean and great looking boat with a fantastic young crew who took obvious pride in the boat. I can't speak highly enough of their professionalism.

Ric & Jeanne Ainley (Dalmatian Islands 2012)

We can't say enough about the crew, the boat, the tour guides, the passengers on the trip and the experience all together!
As for the boat, the San Snova was beautiful. The food was superb!

Nicole Bianco (Dalmatian Islands, Dubrovnik 2012)

The trip was great!! The guides, boat and crew were amazing and a lot of fun, very knowledgeable of Croatia and the history of the region and shared it with us. Also, the ship that we were on, the San Snova, was actually built by the family of the captain. Our fellow passengers were a lot of fun, we had a really good group on the ship with us. It made for a wonderful holiday!

Kristine Derkovich (Dalmatian Islands Dubrovnik 2012)

It was a fantastic holiday, perfect in all ways. The boat was just lovely, and cabins were spotlessly clean as well as the rest of the boat, very well kept. The crew were so pleasant, the captain gracious and our tour guides were wonderful. The two chefs did a great job, not easy to get such great meals on board usually but they did it. The captain's dinner was a night to remember!
We enjoyed the routes taken from easy to extremely difficult; magnificent mountaintop views, beautiful harbours and cycling around the lakes - wonderful variety.
