Greece - Ionian Islands

Greece - Ionian Islands

Degree of difficulty - B

On the Ionian Islands off the west coast of Greece, Hellas shows her greenest side: Pure nature, the crystal clear blue shimmering Ionian Sea and centuries of Venetian influences dominate the archipelago of the Ionian Islands.

From Corfu, which was the dream island of the unforgettable Austrian empress Sissi, this journey leads us to regions which are not very well known abroad. Discover the famous island of Ithaca which is said to have been the home of Odysseus, the unforgettable green bird sanctuary island of Lefkas, the fantastic mountain world of Cephalonia and the beautiful olive woods of the small island of Paxos. Enjoy the stay on board of the wooden motor yacht and let yourself be pampered by the excellent Greek cuisine and the coziness of the ship!

Day 1 (Sat) Corfu town (Embarkation)
Individual arrival by plane and subsequent transfer to the ship. Check in on the Panagiota from 2 pm on. Dinner on board. Overnight stay in Corfu town.

Day 2 (Sun) Corfu Island – Parga
After breakfast our tour guide takes you for an exciting wander through the UNESCO-World-Heritage old town of Corfu. Afterwards we return to the ship and off we go! We cross over to Parga on the west coast of the Greek mainland. The town is beautifully located below a Venetian fortification complex built in 1570 that we will climb on our afternoon’s walk. A stroll through the lively alleys of Parga’s old town as well as a swim at the nearby sandy beach may  complete our day.

Day 3 (Mon) Parka - Lefkas Island
After a fairly long cruise we reach the narrow channel – spanned by a quaint swing bridge – tht separates the island of Lefkas from the mainland. The boat brings us to the city of Lefkas. From here we cycle around the lagoon and stop for a lengthy swim at the wondersome Agios Ioannis beach. Thereafter we take a boats crossing to Nidri where we spend the night.

Day 4 (Tue) Lefkas Island - Cephalonia Island
In the morning we ride from Nidri through olive groves to a nearby waterfall. If we are lucky, a steady stream of water will enable us to take a refreshing swim. Following the excursion we make our own way to Cephalonia and with permitting weather conditions, the boat will anchor for a swim stop in Porto Katsiki, one of the most famous Greek beaches located under the towering cliffs of Lefkas. Then we continue by boat to Fiskardo on the island of Cephalonia. This port, located at the northern tip of the island, delights us  with its colourful little houses and many cafes and bars along the picturesque harbour promenade. An evening walk of approx. 30 minutes takes us to a pretty lighthouse. Overnight in Fiskardo.

Day 5 (Wed) Islands Cephalonia - Island Meganisi
After a short crossing by boat we reach the harbour of Agia Efimia, featured in the Hollywood blockbuster „Captain Corelli’s Mandolin“. Today’s bike tour starts here and leads us along the coastline to the enchanting Melissani Cave; accessible only by rowing boat. A visit to the Drogerati cave is next on the agenda before the tour takes us back to the boat. The boat meets us in Sami and takes us for a well deserved swimming break. Our jounrey then takes us further to Meganisi, a charming island, where we spend the night.

Day 6 (Thu) Island Meganisi – Paxos
After breakfast we have the change to explore Meganisi on our bike. Afterwards a long crossing will take us to the Island of Paxos. On the way we will take a swim stop in front of Antipaxos. Paxos is the smalles of the Ionian Islands. The unique natural harbour of Gaios has its own special island atmosphere. In the afternoon we can explore the pretty harbour on foot or we may cycle to a nearby beach on this adorable little island. In the evening we can enjoy one of the cozy tavernas in Gaios.

Day 7 (Fri) Islands of Paxos and Corfu
The small island of Paxos (32 km2) is home to 250,000 olive trees which drown the isle in a wonderful silver green shimmer. On today’s challenging bike ride we cycle one around the island. In the olive press museum in Magazia we will learn of the traditional olive plantations which were the backbone of the island’s economy over thousands of years. The Panagiota awaits us for our last crossing back to Corfu. Here we can enjoy a celebratory evening meal before reflecting on our wonderful adventures of the week in the beautiful town.

Day 8 (Sat) Corfu town (Disembarkation)
After breakfast, check-out and individual return home or extended stay in Greece.

We reserve the right to make changes to the planned itinerary due to changing wind and weather conditions as well as organizational requirements.
