This self guided cycling holiday is notable for idyllic surroundings, superb cuisine and plenty of good wine in a convivial atmosphere, which together with a reasonable price make for a thoroughly enjoyable holiday experience!

The accommodation is situated at Pay de Gatine, 80km from Rochelle and 60 km south of Loire. Surrounding your accommodation are hundreds of miles of undulating country lanes, winding though a variety of landscapes. The lanes are well surfaced and there is very little traffic. You are stay in an auberge where your holiday is hosted by the proprietors. House capacity is 10 so you are never 'just another client'.

As well as the great cycle routes the other advantages of this trip is outside pool heated to 29 degrees, and the fact that everything is included in the price, Beer, wine, soft drinks cider, food, even the postcards! And if you want a rest from biking there are also great walking routes at the door step.

DAY 1 Sunday 16km / 10 miles
La Faziliére – short ride after your journey to stretch your legs and get to know the area. Gently undulating on winding country lanes with good views of the bocage.

DAY 2 Monday 43km / 26miles or 16km / 10miles
Roof of the World – local tour taking-in several interesting villages and the magical Rocher Branlant. In the first few km the elevation increases by 100m. Or L’Absie – winding lanes through pastures and woods, past hamlets and high places, lead to the attractive village of l’Absie with cafes, banks, pharmacies, etc.

DAY 3 Tuesday 42km/25miles or 25km / 15miles
Coulonges-sur-l’Autize – a traditional country-produce market accessed via pastoral and arable lands and ancient villages. Bocage to plain and back to bocage. Or Butcher’s Wood – pretty winding lanes and tracks past ancient settlements, ponds, streams and orchards and through woods and the historic deciduous forests.

DAY 4 Wednesday 9km / 11 miles or 35km / 11 miles
Le Beugnon Lakes Picnic – Your hosts meet you at the lakes with a "posh" picnic. Winding lanes and wooded paths. Lovely views at highest point by the windmill ruins. Or An alternative picnic route passing the village of l’Absie

DAY 5 Thursday 33km / 11miles or 31km / 19miles
Green Venice – Start at the peaceful waterside village of Coulon. Visit picturesque "port" villages. Pick-up point is the ruined Gothic abbey at Maillezais. * Option without transfer: Feymoreau Mines – local ride to the erstwhile mining village with its interesting exhibition and village features.

DAY 6 Friday 21km / 13miles or 24km / 14miles
Mervent Forest and Vouvant – start at the village of Mervent, set on a hill above a beautiful lake and forest, with a route passing through the majestic desidous forest of Mervent and the medieval fortified village of Vouvant, returning back to let Moulin du Chemin through the timeless and picturesque countryside known as the bocage. *Option without transfer: La Rocher Branlant – visiting the valley of la Rocher Branlant with easy detours to the village of l’Absie, les Rochers du Bousignoux and the pretty hamlet of les Jinchères.

How to get to the start point in Niort: 

La Rochelle Airport is 1hr 20mins drive from le Moulin. As well as car rental companies, la
Rochelle airport also has a convenient public transport connection to Niort, from where we
transfer guests without charge on Saturdays and Sundays.
-Nantes Airport is 1hr 30mins from le Moulin where car rental is aviable option to connect to le
Moulin – unless we can send a taxi. The transfer rate for this would be 292€ on Sundays and
€195 on Saturdays.
-Poitiers Airport is 1hr 10mins drive from le Moulin, with public transport connections to Niort.
-In case of arrival on an international flight, Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport has a TGV
(fast train) station with connections to Niort,

The Moulin trip was great.
